#HOW TO INSTALL NOTEPAD++ ON CHROMEBOOK DOWNLOAD#
If your interested in hosting a basic website on the Chromebook then follow these steps, If your limited to a Chromebook then the best app I have found to make/edit HTML files is called Text (download link: ) download that app the same way as the app earlier, if your on a windows machine then I recommend Notepad++ and on OSX you can use TextWrangler (download links below) Now your server is set up you can put files into the folder you just created, it could be videos, photos, or even. You then need to select that folder and click open it will then close the file explorer. I named the folder ‘root’ but you could name it ‘Server Files’, ‘Shared Folder’ or anything you like. You now need to select a folder for the servers files to occupy, to do this click the CHOOSE FOLDER button, you will then be presented with a file explorer, for my server I just created a folder in the downloads section of my Chromebook. Once you have rebooted you will notice that it now has 2 URL’s listed instead of just the on like before, the second URL is the URL that you will use to access the files from any computer on your current network, at this point if you are not connected to the same network as the Chromebook you cannot aces the files that are on the Chromebook’s Server. You now need to restart the Chromebook to enable the features you just ticked. Launch the newly downloaded app (yellow logo with 200 OK! written in it), you will be presented with a white and blue page, this is where all the magic happens, I ticked “Run in background” because well I wanted it to run in the background and you will need to tick “Accessible to other computers” if you want it to share the server on the network, I you don’t you wont be able to access the server from any other device. Click the button that says “Add to Chrome”, then Click “Add app” then app will then download and install. Search for “Web Server for Chrome” and click the link that says “Web Server for chrome – Chrome Web Store – Google” (or follow this link: ).

I recently wrote about how I set up a basic web server on my new Chromebook and what sort of things it could be used for, If you haven’t read my other Blog Post I highly recommend you’d do before starting this as I mention more about its limitations and use cases for the server.
